New Year’s Resolutions for Every NHL Team

As the calendar turns to 2024, James and Kyle are back to share their their New Year's Resolutions for each team.

Lots of teams need to solve their goalie situation whether that's subtracting or adding, others need to stick to their plan despite having more success than expected, while many need to commit to playing their younger players. Chicago needs to start to build. Buffalo needs to find an identity. Carolina & Arizona have off-ice things to sort through. Edmonton and NY Islanders need to lock their young, star defensemen into long-term contracts. Finally, teams in cup contention need to push their chips in and go for it, namely the New York Rangers.

 

Future Outlook: Nashville Predators

In the latest Future Outlook episode, James and Kyle discuss the Nashville Predators who have close to a blank canvas to paint their future on. They have very few long-term commitments but also very few elite prospects. They could be an ideal fit for a big name free agent or two. Maybe even give out an offer sheet?

The most important decision Nashville has to make is who to commit to long-term in goal. James and Kyle talk through that scenario and why it is tricky and why the clock might be closer to striking midnight than expected.

James & Kyle discuss Frank Seravalli's NHL Trade Board. Can the Bruins or Penguins fit Elias Lindholm? Can Toronto fit a defenseman that they desperately need? How can Nashville take advantage of their cap space? Is Edmonton the most likely team to trade for a goalie? All of those questions are answered plus a breakdown of why Calgary did quite well with their return for Nikita Zadorov, even if the return initially seems underwhelming.

In this special Black Friday episode, James and Kyle run through the NHL and discuss which teams' starts they are buying and selling based on their underlying numbers. Who should make the playoffs? Who might fall out of a playoff spot?

James and Kyle discuss recent events around the NHL as American Thanksgiving approaches. They discuss Patrick Kane with Kyle throwing some water on the Buffalo fire. They hit on the Edmonton Oilers and discuss whether they made the right coaching decision and the future of the team. Some other topics discussed include the Vancouver Canucks' hot start, Alexis Lafrenière's improvement, and the Leafs' decision to choose John Klingberg over Erik Gustafsson. 

Future Outlooks: Minnesota Wild Edition

James and Kyle continue their new series of episodes that will take extensive dives into individual teams and discuss their long-term outlook. There are some questions all around the organization, except maybe in goal? Minnesota traded Calen Addison between recording and release, making the future of the organization on defense even murkier. Right now, there is very little in the pipeline for the blue line and the forward group is heavily dependent on Marco Rossi and two Russian prospects who have not come to North America yet.

James and Kyle continue their new series of episodes that will take extensive dives into individual teams and discuss their long-term outlook. Next up is a team that is looking to take a step forward and continue on a hot start, the Detroit Red Wings. They discuss the hot start and the sustainability of it but the main discussion is on the future build of the team. The defense is the long-term position of strength but the current contract structure is questionable. Goalie also seems to be in a good spot. The biggest questions are at forward. What is the outlook? How does Detroit proceed?

They breakdown the future of the goalies, defense, and forwards, discuss the Sabres' approach to drafting and signing players of Russian descent and why it should be successful, and conclude with an breakdown of their future cap implications. Do the Sabres need to be careful of their spending or do they have ample room to operate? The answer might surprise.
